The rumours that actress Rola Misaki signed a 50 million yuan (S$10.6 million) contract to be an anonymous businessman's personal assistant are false, according to Shanghaiist.

Reports from Japanese media indicate that such a deal did not take place, with Ms Misaki stating on Weibo that the reports were "completely incorrect."

An insider from the Chinese entertainment industry further clarified that the anonymous businessman created the hoax to gain fame and publicity.

"He wants to be famous, and he used her name and a false report to do it," the insider said.

Ms Misaki never gained a large following in Japan, but her slender frame and 'cute' features have made her popular in China.

Her present profession in Tokyo earns her 100,000 yen (S$1104) an hour, and someone with such a salary would earn more than 50 million yuan over 15 years.
